ABPA BOOK AWARDS 2009


I. CATEGORIES FOR THE AWARD

The ABPA Book Awards shall be given on book entries into three (3) categories, namely:

1. Academic Books
2. Children’s Books
3. General Books

II. STATEMENT OF THE PURPOSES OF THE AWARDS

1. To encourage co-publishing or translation among ABPA member-countries.

2. That all the member-countries endeavor to participate in the annual ABPA Book Awards by nominating outstanding books produced by their member-publisher.

3. To expand cooperation among member-publishers of ABPA’s member countries and overcome illiteracy by producing quality books and other educational materials.

III. GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE AWARDS

Firstly, that books shall be co-published or translated by ABPA member-country from ABPA-member country;

Secondly, that the books co-published or translated in the year January 2007 or until December 31, 2008 and in the succeeding award during the preceding year.

Thirdly, that the Book Awards Judging Committee shall review and pass judgment on the book entries, taking into account the following criteria:

a. Contents
b. Design
c. Typography
d. Binding
e. Materials used;
f. Number of copies printed; and
g. Difficulty of Translation

Fourthly, appointment of the chair and two member of the ABAJCO which shall decide the winning entries during the night prior to the General Assembly.

CRITERIA

Deadline: Application must reach the national publishers association by no later than September 30, 2009.

Nominate Titles: If an English title exists, please use it. If no English title exist, please provide the original title (in alphabetic script) plus an approximate English translation of the title.

Date of Issue: To qualify for the 2009 ABPA Awards, the book must have been published in the year of January 2007 to December 31, 2008. Books published in other years are not eligible.

A: Translated Books

The nominated book must have been translated from the language of one ABPA member-country into the language of another member- country. The publisher of the original book and the publisher of the translated book must be from different member countries.

B: Co-/ jointly published Books*

The publishers must be from two or more different publishing companies. The publishers companies must also be from two or more different ABPA member-countries. The Award prize or citation shall be divided equally between (or among) the co-/joint publishers.

* For co-/joint publishers, both (or all) of the publishers must be members of their respective national publishers associations. For translated books, the nominating publisher must be a member of its national publishers association. The original publisher does not need to be a member of its national publishing association.

Summary: In order to assist the judges in their decisions, please provide a short summary of the contents of the books in English.

Copy of book: A copy of each nominated entry must be provided by publishers for judging. This book will become the property of ABPA and will not be returned.
